The Makeup Colour Game using Adobe Kuler

Hi All,

Hope you are all doing well!!

So one of the main aspects to makeup, I think anyway, is colour. I think it’s really important to use colours that compliment or enhance your eye colour (you can read how to enhance your eye colour using colour for: blue eyes, green eyes, brown eyes, hazel eyes, grey eyes and neutrals).

I think the two best colour options are to either complimentary colours or analogous colours. There is then of course shades, which are simply different shades of the same colour (i.e light brown to dark brown).

Getting to know colours is simple, as long as you know some of the fundamentals.

Complimentary colours sit opposite each other on the colour wheel, the most simple combinations would be blue and yellow for example.

Complimentary colours below using a dark brown shade as the base colour

Analogous colours sit next to each other on the colour wheel, the most simple combination being red and blue.

There is a great Adobe website, Adobe Kuler (where I got the image above) that can really help you to understand colours, and how to use them in your makeup application.

If you have a neutral taste in makeup I would start with analogous colours and the great thing about this tool is that you can choose a base colour, whether it be a lipstick colour or eye shadow colour.

Below I have chosen a deep plum red as a base, and you can see to the right that there is a warm brown. From this I know that for eye shadow I could use warm brown and gold colours.

How do you decide on what colours you choose? Let me know if you decide to give Adobe Kuler a try!
